Review of Linux Compatibility

The DVBSky S960 is an external DVB-T tuner, which is connected per USB to the PC. The box is identical to the Mystique SaTiX-S2 Sky V2 and is supported under Linux. However, the necessary drivers are not included in the Linux standard kernel and have to be installed by hand.

A Linux driver is provided at DVBSky homepage for download. The driver has to be compiled per hand. Additionally, the S960 is sold in a bundle which includes a USB stick with a booting Linux Media Center.

The firmware file dvb-fe-ds3103.fw is and the driver package media_build_bst from the DVBSky homepage is needed to operate the S960. The firmware file has to be copied to /lib/firmware, and the driver can be compiled and installed by the commands

make
sudo make install

The remote which is part of the bundle is not fully supported by Linux. Some of the keys are not recognized by LIRC.

More information can be found at the description of the Mystique SaTiX-S2 Sky V2, which uses the same hardware.
