Review of Linux Compatibility

The Longshine LCS-PS112 is a printserver that is equipped with 2 USB ports and one parallel port (Centronix).

A printer connected to the parallel port can be accessed with the LPD protocol at the following address

lpd://{Printer-Server-IP}/lp1

The last number corresponds to the port number of the printserver, i.e., a number from 1 to 3 for the parallel Port and the 2 USB ports.

The factory default of the printserver is the IP 192.168.0.10. If the LAN is in a different subnet, it is recommended to change one PC to the same subnet as the print server (i.e., 192.168.0.xxx) to access the printserver at 192.168.0.10 and change its IP address via a web browser.

After connecting the printer to the printserver the configuration of the the printer can be performed in Ubuntu 10.04 in the menu “System > System Settings > Printing > New > Network printer > LPD/LPR Host”.

After entering the IP address of the printserver and selecting “lp1″ as queue the corresponding printer model has to be selected.
