The devices connected to the Unifying Receiver can be managed via the program Solaar. A Ubuntu version of Solaar can be found at https://launchpad.net/~daniel.pavel/+archive/solaar. This software supports among others to read the battery level of the devices connected to the Unifying Receiver.
