Recensione di Compatibilità con Linux

USB-ID ID 05e1:0408

The USB 2.0 adapter EasyCap DC60 from Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd records videos via USB. Two different versions of the adapter are available, both being distributed under identical naming. Fortunately, both versions are supported by Linux.

One version has the USB ID 05e1:0408 and is shown by lsusb in the following way:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e1:0408 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd

This model is supported by the kernel version that is distributed by Ubuntu 11.10 and OpenSUSE 11.4. After plugging the module into the USB port the Linux kernel recognizes the adapter and uses the kernel module stk11xx for its initialization:

stk11xx: Initialize USB2.0 Syntek Capture device
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Capture device is ready
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Camera is now controlling video device /dev/video0
usbcore: registered new interface driver usb_stk11xx_driver
stk11xx: v2.2.0 : Syntek USB Video Camera

The video Signal can be used e.g. by mplayer for postprocessing:

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:norm=PAL_BGHIN:width=720:height=576:outfmt=uyvy:
device=/dev/video0:input=0:fps=25:buffersize=64 -hardframedrop -vo xv -ao alsa

The development of the module was carried out as Sourceforge project at http://sourceforge.net/projects/easycapdc60/ before it became part of the standard kernel. In the meantime the driver was removed from the Sourceforge page.

USB-ID 1c88:0007

The second version of the adapter has the USB ID “1c88:0007 Somagic, Inc”. This version is supported by the easycap-comagic driver, which can be found at http://code.google.com/p/easycap-somagic-linux/. Additionally the firmware that can be found on the supplied CD has to be extracted an copied to the Linux system. A detailed description of this installation can be found at:
http://code.google.com/p/easycap-somagic-linux/wiki/GettingStarted.

After the initialization of the USB stick, the kernel identifies the stick in different ways, depending on the model. The following USB IDs have been seen so far:

  • EasyCAP DC60: “1c88:003c Somagic, Inc”
  • EasyCAP002: “1c88:003e Somagic, Inc”
  • EasyCAP002: “1c88:003f Somagic, Inc”
