Review of Linux Compatibility
The Brother HL-2270DW is a laser printer that can be connected per USB, WiFi (IEEE802.11 b/g), and Ethernet (10/100 Base TX). It supports duplex printing and is fully supported by Linux. The laser printer supports standard protocols like CUPS, LPD, and LPRng and therefore is a perfect choice in combination with Linux.
The Linux drivers that are distributed by Brother are already included in most distributions (e.g. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) or at least include the compatible model HL-2170W, which can be used instead of the HL-2270DW drvers:
The Linux driver for the HL-2270DW as well as an installation instruction are provided by Brother at
This page also offers the Debian drivers for using the printer in combination with LPR as well as the Debian drivers for CUPSwrapper for download.
The WiFi configuration of the HL-2270DW is carried out per web browser via the WebGUI of the printer.
A detailed instruction describing the usage of the HL-2270DW in combination with Arch Linux can be found at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Brother_HL-2270DW
