Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP All-in-One printer HP Officejet 4500 with integrated scanner is fully supported by the HP Linux Imaging and Printing Driver since version 3.10.2. The All-in-One device is also available in a version with WiFi under the ID 4500W.

The hplip driver can be downloaded from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html, where also a detailed step-by-step printer installation description is available.

In Ubuntu this driver can be installed with the “Synaptic Package Manager”. The necessary files are hplip and hplip-cups.

The integrated scanner is supported by xsane or by the command-line tool hp-scan (the version 4500W also supports scanning per WiFi):
