Review of Linux Compatibility

The TechniSat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI is a USB DVB-S2 receiver with HD support but is only partly supported by Linux.

It is possible to use the receiver since Linux Kernel version together with the Video4Linux driver from Nonetheless, the CI module is not supported with this module.

The USB receiver has the USB-ID 147f:0001 und is identified by the Kernel in the following way:

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 14f7:0001

The firmware file dvb-usb-az6027-03.fw is necessary for the module. It can be downloaded and installed in the following way:

tar -xf 20110630_TERRATEC_S7r3_Linux.tar.gz
sudo cp 20110630_TERRATEC_S7r3_Linux/dvb-usb-az6027-03.fw /lib/firmware

With the firmware file the card gets initialized. If the firmware file is missing, the kernel reports the following error:

dvb-usb: found a 'Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
dvb-usb: did not find the firmware file. (dvb-usb-az6027-03.fw) Please see linux/Documentation/dvb/ for more details on firmware-problems. (-2)
dvb_usb_az6027: probe of 1-5:1.0 failed with error -2
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_az6027

If the driver has to be compiled by hand a detailed description can be found at:
