A few years ago, I bought a HVR-930c-HD, but I never really got it to work in Linux. A few days ago, I gave it another try and now it almost works.

The missing ingredient seemed to be the right firmware. I installed the firmware file “dvb-demod-si2165.fw” using “get_dvb_firmware si2165″ from the current kernel sources.

I ran “w_scan”, it loaded the firmware automatically and found all the DVB-C channels I needed. It also generated the channels file for mplayer. Also, the remote control is fully supported by the kernel and lirc. Finally, mplayer is able to receive the channels.

The downside is that the received signals (images and audio) are still full of artefacts, that it is impossible to watch. I can see the TV signals on screen, and also recognize what is being shown, but there are still too much artifacts to watch it. The playback with VLC looks the same.

I am happy that support for this stick has come so far and I hope that it will be fully supported in the near future. It would be disappointing if development stopped at this point, so close to full support.
