Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus P5G41T-M LX3 is a Micro-ATX mainboard with Intel G41 chipset.

The on-board Gigabit-Ethernet chipset

02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Device [1969:1083] (rev c0)

can cause troubles on outdated distributions (e.g.. Ubuntu 10.04) and is not recognized out of the box by the kernel modul atl1e in these distributions:

  *-network UNCLAIMED
       description: Ethernet controller
       product: Atheros Communications
       vendor: Atheros Communications
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
       version: c0
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vpd bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:febc0000-febfffff ioport:ec00(size=128)

However, in latest distributions a new version of the modul atl1c is used which fully supports this chipset: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/networking/alx.
