Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus 970 Extreme4 mainboard is supported by latest Linux distributions.

Older distributions can have problems with the used netzwork chipset:

08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 06)

But since kernel version 3.0 the kernel module r8169 supports the Realtek chipsets (RTL8105, RTL8111E, RTL8168E and RTL8168DP are supported) necessary for the LAN. Therefore, current distributions support the network connection out of the box.

Please leave the output of lspci and lshw in the comments section if you use the Asus 970 Extreme4 mainboard with linux. If special configuraion settings were necessary, please also share them with other potential users.

I was able to install Fedora 20 Linux distribution with KDE and so far it runs flawlessly in a dual boot configuration (with Windows)

      Hi Adam.
Could you please provide us the output of “lspci -nnk” and your “dmesg” output? This output would provide important details which could be added to this hardware description.

I am not able to send dmesg output as a txt file attachment for some reason, sorry. And it is quite long to send as a comment.
