The Minorou (also available under the name Venus USB 2.0 Kamera from Vimicro) is a 3D webcam, which is connected per USB and has the USB ID 0ac8:3410

Bus 005 Device 020: ID 0ac8:3410 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.

The Minorou 3D is internally equipped with 2 independent webcams, that are combined per internal USB hub.

The webcam is supported by the Linux kernel module uvcvideo which is provided by the Linux UVC driver. The webcam is supported at least since the Linux kernel version 2.6.30. However, the two separate cameras are only recognized independently of each other and no automatich creation of 3D pictures is possible. Instead, 2 independent video devices are provided by the driver

Each camera has a resolution of 640×480 pixel:

Frame format: YUYV (MJPG is not supported by device)

The Minorou is sometimes used in robotic projects due to its compact size and its small weight. E.g. the software libv4l2cam was created for such scenario to support this 3D camera. The program v4l2stereo can read two video devices and create stereo recordings from it or calcualte residual images, e.g. by:

v4l2stereo -0 /dev/video1 -1 /dev/video0 --features
