Examen de compatibilité avec Linux

The HP Officejet 6500 is a All-in-One printer, that is available with and without WiFi support. Both versions are fully supported by Linux. (Furthermore, there is a version with a very similar name HP Officejet 6500A which sounds similar but uses different hardware.)

HP Officejet 6500 e709a-c

The version HP Officejet 6500 e709a-c, has not WiFi support and instead has to be connected per USB 2.0. This model has the USB ID

Bus 001 Device 010: ID 03f0:4412 Hewlett-Packard

and is supported by Linux via the HPLIP divers since version 3.11.1.

HP Oficejet 6500 e710n-z

The model with WiFi has the name HP Oficejet 6500 e709n-q and needs a HPLIP driver since version 3.9.4. This model has the USB ID

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:4512 Hewlett-Packard

Configuration

The HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) driver are OpenSource drivers and can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/files/hplip/.
The downloaded and unpacked driver can be installed by the command

sh hplip-3.11.10.run

After plugging in the Officejet 6500A the printer can be configured by the command

hp-setup

The integrated scanner can be accessed by Sane and will be found by the command sane-find-scanner:

# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0x4512 [Officejet 6500 E709n]) at libusb:001:004
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

# Not checking for parallel port scanners.

# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.

# You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
# found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
# necessary.

More details regarding the installation of the HPLIP driver in Ubuntu can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HpAllInOne.
