Revisión de Compatibilidad con Linux

The notebook Acer Aspire V3-771G exists in several models that all are supported by Linux except for the Bluetooth transmitter and missing multitouch capability.

CPU:

The V3-771G is available with the following CPUs:

  • Intel Core i7-2670QM (6 MB L3 Cache, 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz)
  • Intel Core i7-3610QM (6 MB L3 Cache, 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.30 GHz)
  • Intel Core i5-2450M (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz)
  • Intel Core i5-3210M (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz)
  • Intel Core i3-2310M (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.10 GHz)
  • Intel Core i3-2350M (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.30 GHz)
  • Intel Core i3-2370M (3 MB L3 Cache, 2.40 GHz)
  • Intel Pentium Prozessor B950 (2 MB L3 cache, 2.10 GHz)
  • Intel Pentium Prozessor B970 (2 MB L3 cache, 2.30 GHz)

and can be equipped with up to 8GB Ram.

Display:

The display is a 17.3” Acer CineCrystal TFT with LED backlight (220-nit). The available displays have the HD+ resolution of 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900.

Bios:

The default setting of the Bios is shipped with UEFI activated. To install Linux on the V3-771G UEFI has be de deactivated. Therefore, the shift key has to be pressed together with the restart button. A menu is shown to change the UEFI setting, which allows deactivating UEFI and changing the boot order to to start from CD/DVD or USB first.

Graphic:

The Acer-Aspire V3-771G-53214G50 supports the NVIDIA Optimus technology to save battery power.

Depending on the graphic demand the system can switch between the Intel chipset:

This technique is also supported by Linux with the help of the Bumblebee software, which has to be installed by hand (see Bumblebee Ubuntu).

In some cases the screen of the Acer Aspire V3-771G can stay black during the installation of Linux. In this case the additional kernel option “nomodeset” has to be transferred to Grub. After installing Bumblebee this kernel option is not necessary an more.

Ethernet:

The Gigabit Ethernet is realized by a AR8151 chipset

If the WiFi connections fails sporadically it can help to update the Bios to version 1.08.

The Acer Aspire V3-771G uses a Intel HDA chipset, which is fully supported by Linux:

Touchpad:

Due to a still open bug the touchpad is recognized as a standard PS/2 mouse and hence does not support gestures or multitouch events.

Bluetooth:

Bluetooth is provided by e combination of a WiFi and Bluetooth chipset, i.e. the AR9462. The bluetooth part of this chipsatz is not yet supported by Ubuntu 12.04 (see bug report).

To activate Bluetooth a Firmware file is necessary. The following two files have to be downloaded:
AthrBT_0x11020000.dfu
WifiSyslog.txt
Both files have to be copied to

/lib/firmware/ark3/

Furthermore, the kernel module has to be downloaded as .deb package and needs to be installed:
ar9462-dkms_1.3-3.5_all.deb
Although the installation of the file stops with errors, but the folder

/usr/src/ar9462-1.3-3.5/

will be created in this way, including the needed files.

The compiling and the installation of the driver can now be executed by hand:

cd /usr/src/ar9462-1.3-3.5/
sudo make
sudo cp *.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/updates/dkms/
sudo depmod -a

After a restart of the system the driver will be loaded automatically.

Card Reader:

The notebook includes a card reader that is identified by Linux in the following way:

and the kernel module (rts_pstor) will be loaded automatically, but the functionality of the card reader was not tested.
