The LogiLink Express Card with the product ID PC0036A extends the Laptop/PC by two FireWire ports (IEEE1394a).
The card is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel if plugged in:
pciehp 0000:00:1c.3:pcie04: Card present on Slot(3) pci 0000:06:00.0: PME# supported from D0 pci 0000:06:00.0: PME# disabled pciehp: Could not get hotplug parameters ohci1394 0000:06:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0003) ohci1394 0000:06:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19 ohci1394: fw-host0: OHCI-1394 1.0 (PCI): IRQ= MMIO=[c4000000-c40007ff] Max Packet= IR/IT contexts=[4/4]
In parallel, the kernel automatically loads (since Ubuntu 9.10) the necessary kernel modules :
raw1394 29096 0 dv1394 21096 0 ohci1394 33780 1 dv1394 ieee1394 100896 3 raw1394,dv1394,ohci1394
and creates the device dev/raw1394.
A device connected to the first port of the Express Card can only be used if also a device is connected to the second port (e.g. an external hard disk). This is due to a hardware error of the card which is independent of the operating system in use and also is valid for Windows.
