Review of Linux Compatibility

The AVM Fritz PCI card exists in two version, v2.0 and v2.1. Both are supported by Linux, however, the installation and configuration effort can vary greatly depending on the distribution that is used. The support of ISDN cards is normally very good in SuSE distributions due to the large availability of ISDN in Germany. The AVM Fritz PCI card is supported by SuSE at least since SuSE 8 and can simply be configured with the SuSE configuration tool Yast.

The Installation and configuration unter Ubuntu is more complicated. First, the Linux kernel image has to be installed:

sudo apt-get install linux-image-386

Afterwards, a restart of the system is necessary before continuing with further installation steps.

The following packages have to be installed in a subsequent step:

sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-386 libcapi20-dev libcapi20-3 capiutils pppdcapiplugin drdsl avm-fritz-firmware

The necessary Ubuntu conifugration of the card is described in detail at: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/AVM_Fritz!Card_DSL
