Review of Linux Compatibility
The Hercules DJ Console Rmx is connected via USB 2.0 to the PC and is recognized by Linux as external sound card. The hardware is fully supported by Ubuntu thanks to the Hercules DJ kernel module. The module is compatible with the Linux kernel versions 2.6.35 (Ubuntu Maverick), 2.6.38 (Ubuntu Natty) und 3.0.0 (Ubuntu Oneiric) and can be used at least with up to Ubuntu 12.10.
The necessary kernel module hdj_mod is not part of the standard Linux kernel. Instead, it has to be added to the Ubuntu package management system from additional sources like the repository of Pavel Rojtberg with the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rojtberg/hdjmod
Afterwards, the new packages can be read in and the kernel module can be installed:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install hdjmod-dkms
The new module can be loaded by:
sudo modprobe hdj_mod
Under Linux it is recommended to use the mixer software Mixxx together with the Hercules DJ Console Rmx. This software can be easily installed under Ubuntu by the following command:
sudo apt-get install mixxx
or from the source code which is available at the Mixxx-Homepage.
