Review of Linux Compatibility

The USB 2.0 adapter D-Link DUB-E100 provides a RJ45 socket at an USB port. The adapter exists in at least three different versions (A4, B1, B1 alternate). All three verions are supported by the Linux Kernel since version 2.6.19, whereas the kernel 2.4 only supports the version A4.

All versions base on the ASIX 8817x chipset, which needs the kernel modules asix together with the module usbnet.

new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Product: DUB-E100

Each of the three versions has a different USB ID:

Version USB-ID
-----------------------------
A4 0x2001:0x1A00
B1 0x07d1:0x3c05
B1 alternate 0x2001:0x3c05

Hence, the version B1 can be identified by lsusb in the following way:

You are not the first one who accidentially selects the wrong rating score. It seems that we have to rethink the usability of this part and somehow revise the corresponding Ajax code…
