Review of Linux Compatibility

The NetGear WG111v3 is a USB WiFi stick with USB ID 0846:4260 and bases on the Realtek RTL8187B chipset:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0846:4260 NetGear, Inc. WG111v3 54 Mbps Wireless [realtek RTL8187B]

The stick is automatically recognized and fully supported by the Linux kernel:

usb 1-12: new high-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
usb 1-12: New USB device found, idVendor=0846, idProduct=4260
usb 1-12: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-12: Product: NETGEAR WG111v3
usb 1-12: Manufacturer: Manufacturer_NETGEAR
usb 1-12: SerialNumber: 001E2xxxxxxx

Due to a bug under Ubuntu 16.04 the WiFi Symbol disappears if the WiFi connection is lost and re-established. The selection menu disappears and it is not possible to see in the menu to which network the stick is connected or to change the network. Fortunately, re-plugging the stick let’s the menu re-appear.
