Review of Linux Compatibility

The Hewlett-Packard is an inkjet printer. The device is connected via USB and has the USB ID
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 03f0:d711 Hewlett-Packard
The Hewlett-Packard is fully supported under Linux thanks to the HPLIP drivers provided by HP. At least the version 3.15.11 of the HPLIP drivers is necessary in order to fully support the Hewlett-Packard. Under Ubuntu the needed drivers can be installed via the apt-get package manager:
sudo apt-get install hplip hpijs hplip-gui
Otherwise, the drivers can be downloaded from HPLIP web site. The downloaded files (eventually after unpacking them) can be installed (as root):
sh hplip-3.15.11.run
Under Ubuntu this step is not necessary (because installation is done by the package management system) and one can immediately skip to the configuration step:
sudo hp-setup

The HP Envy 4520 is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel:

usb 2-5: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-pci
usb 2-5: New USB device found, idVendor=03f0, idProduct=d711
usb 2-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 2-5: Product: ENVY 4520 series
usb 2-5: Manufacturer: HP
usb 2-5: SerialNumber: TH61P3K27xxxxx
