Review of Linux Compatibility

The Trust Compact Scan USB 19200 is a flat bed scanner which uses the USB port for power supply and therefore does not need an external supply. The scanner needs the kernel module xhci_hcd and was successfully tested under Ubuntu 14.04.3 with a Linux kernel of version 3.13.0.

The scanner has the USB ID 05d8:4002

Bus 006 Device 004: ID 05d8:4002 Ultima Electronics Corp. Artec Ultima 2000 (GT6801 based)/Lifetec LT9385/ScanMagic 1200 UB Plus Scanner

and is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel:

usb 6-2: USB disconnect, device number 3
usb 6-2: new full-speed USB device number 4 using ohci-pci
usb 6-2: New USB device found, idVendor=05d8, idProduct=4002
usb 6-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0

Unfortunately, the scanner is not automatically supported by Sane. A firmware file needs to be installed, which is expected to be located at /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/:

cd /tmp/
sudo mkdir /usr/share/sane/gt68xx
sudo cp /tmp/sbfw.usb /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/SBfw.usb

And in the file /etc/sane.d/gt68xx.conf the entry override “mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus” needs to be uncommentd (if commented):

override "mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus"

    This scanner is not working if connected to an USB 3.0 port of my Samsung Series 5 Ultra. Sane-find-scanner identifies the scanner, but scanimage -L, sane or simplescan can not access the scanner.

    Since this ultrabook has only USB 3.0 ports. I have to use a USB 2.0 hub as adapter between Ultrabook and Trust Compact Scan USB 19200 scanner. If connected to this USB 2.0 hub I can scan normally again.
