Review of Linux Compatibility
The Samsung Xpress C460W is a All-In-One laser printer, which was successfully tested under Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS with Linux kernel version 3.2.0. Printer and scanner are fully supported under Linux by the Samsung Unified Linux Driver (suld), which can be downloaded from the Samsung homepage or at
http://bchemnet.com/suldr/suld.html. With this driver the all-in-one device can be accessed via USB or network.
Be careful if you download the driver from there, because the C460W needs the “driver2″ package of the driver, which is currently available in version 1.00.35. Although also suld packages with versions 3.00 and 4.00 exist, these are not driver2 packages and hence can not be used with the C460W.
It is also possible to install the driver via the package management system. Under Ubuntu this can be achieved by
sudo bash -c 'echo "deb http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/ debian extra" >> /etc/apt/sources.list' sudo wget -O - http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/suldr.gpg | sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install suld-driver2-1.00.35
Debian itself can be used with the same set of commands, but the preceding “sudo” part of the commands normally needs to be omitted.
