Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP Envy M6 is a 15.6 inch laptop with touch screen and HP 18A7 mainboard:

DMI: Hewlett-Packard HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC/18A7, BIOS F.34 05/22/2013

Linux compatibility was tested under Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 (Codename: Ascella) with a Linux kernel of version 4.1.0.

Gigabit Ethernet

The on board Gigabit Ethernet uses a Realtek chipset:

02:00.2 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [10ec:8168] (rev 0a)
	Kernel modules: r8169

and is automatically supported by the r8169 kernel driver:

r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
r8169 0000:02:00.2: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM control
r8169 0000:02:00.2 eth0: RTL8411 at 0xffffc9000064c000, 84:34:97:15:14:ec, XID 08800800 IRQ 36
r8169 0000:02:00.2 eth0: jumbo features [frames: 9200 bytes, tx checksumming: ko]

Sound

The sound chipset is fully supported by the snd_hda_intel kernel module:

snd_hda_intel 0000:00:01.1: Force to non-snoop mode
input: HDA ATI HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.1/sound/card0/input11

input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.2/sound/card1/input12
input: HD-Audio Generic Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.2/sound/card1/input13
input: HD-Audio Generic Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.2/sound/card1/input14

Graphics

The graphics chipset bases on an AMD/ATI chipset:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Thames [Radeon HD 7500M/7600M Series] [1002:6840] (rev ff)

It is fully supported by the Radeon driver:

RADEON(0): Modeline "1366x768"x60.0 76.30 1366 1374 1384 1558 768 771 772 816 -hsync -vsync (49.0 kHz eP)

WiFi

The driver for the WiFi chipset is not working automatically. Loading of the driver fails:

BBP_R105: BBPR105.field.EnableSIGRemodulation = 1, BBPR105.field.MLDFor2Stream = 0
no file read method
Read file "/etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat" failed(errCode=-1)!

Currently no solution is known. Please report your configuration in the comment section of this page if you got the WiFi chipset running under Linux.

Webcam

The integrated Webcam has the USB ID 064e:c336

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 064e:c336 Suyin Corp.

and is automatically supported by the uvcvideo kernel driver:

uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device HP TrueVision HD (064e:c336)
input: HP TrueVision HD as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.2/usb2/2-1/2-1:1.0/input/input16
