Review of Linux Compatibility

The Aiptek APT-2 Graphics tablet has the USB ID 08ca:0021:

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 08ca:0021 Aiptek International, Inc. APT-2 Tablet

It uses the same chipset as the Medion MD 41217 graphics tablet.

The tablet is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel:

usb 2-1.6: new low-speed USB device number 3 using ehci-pci
usb 2-1.6: New USB device found, idVendor=08ca, idProduct=0021
usb 2-1.6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 2-1.6: Product: APT-USB-3
usb 2-1.6: Manufacturer: AIPTEK
aiptek 2-1.6:1.0: Aiptek using 400 ms programming speed
input: Aiptek as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6/2-1.6:1.0/input/input18
usbcore: registered new interface driver aiptek

However additional installation of drivers and configuration of the Xorg server might be necessary. The driver can be installed in Debian based distributions by

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-aiptek

Furthermore, the Xorg configuration has to be set. The following configuration file “50-aiptek.conf” is needed:

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "pen"
        MatchProduct "Aiptek|AIPTEK|aiptek"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "aiptek"
        Option "USB" "on"
        Option "Type" "stylus"
        Option "Mode" "absolute"
        Option "zMin" "0"
        Option "zMax" "511"
