Review of Linux Compatibility
The Brother MFC-J5320DW is a All-in-One printer for DIN A3 paper. It is fully supported under Linux thanks to the Linux drivers, which can be downloaded from the Brother website in DEB and RPM file format. Specialized packages for Arch Linux can be downloaded from archlinux.org.
Also the scanner is supported under Linux an can be used in conjunction with SANE. This general Linux scan software is installed under Ubuntu based distributions by
sudo apt-get install sane-utils xsane xsane-common
The Scanner drivers can be downloaded by
wget http://www.brother.com/pub/bsc/linux/dlf/brscan4-0.4.3-0.i386.deb wget http://www.brother.com/pub/bsc/linux/dlf/brscan-skey-0.2.4-1.i386.deb wget http://www.brother.com/pub/bsc/linux/dlf/brother-udev-rule-type1-1.0.0-1.all.deb
and installed after downloading them by
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture brscan*.deb brother-udev-rule*.deb && sudo apt-get -f install
After a successfuly installation of the drivers, the udev service needs to be restartet to recognize the printer (alternatively the PC can be rebootet)
sudo service udev restart
Furthermore, commercial scanner drivers for the MFC-J5320DW printer are provided by VueScan.
