Review of Linux Compatibility
The Lenovo Y50-70 is a 15.6 inch gaming laptop with good Linux support. However, the WiFi chipset has problems with the Linux driver (e.g. under Linux kernel version 3.13.0).
WiFi uses the Realtek RTL8723BE chipset:
08:00.0 Network controller : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8723BE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:b723] Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:b736] Kernel driver in use: rtl8723be 09:00.0 Ethernet controller : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [10ec:8168] (rev 10) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:380d] Kernel driver in use: r8169
which uses the rtl8723be driver. This driver can access the chipset and establish the WiFi connection, but this connection is not stable. If you suffer from regular network disconnects, it is recommended to install the latest version of the driver:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git cd rtlwifi_new make sudo make install sudo reboot
