Review of Linux Compatibility

The Canon Pixma MG5650 is fully supported under Linux. The necessary Linux drivers are provided on Canon’s homepage for download

Under Debian based Linux distribution the Scanner and printer driver can be downloaded in the following way:

mkdir -p ~/Downloads/canon/pixma_mg5600/
cd ~/Downloads/canon/pixma_mg5600/
wget http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0100006271/01/scangearmp2-3.00-1-deb.tar.gz

After unpacking of the downloaded driver

tar -xzvf scangearmp2*.tar.gz
cd scangearmp2*/packages/

It depends if a 32 bit or 64 bit system is used. This can be found out by the command

uname -m

In case of a 64 bit system the necessary driver is installed by

sudo dpkg -i scangearmp2*amd64.deb

Otherwise, one has to use the 32 bit driver

sudo dpkg -i scangearmp2*i386.deb

After this installation, the scan program can be started by

scangearmp2
