Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP Officejet Pro 6830 is a all-in-one inkjet printer. It is fully supported under Linux by the HPLIP Linux driver since version 3.14.10.

This driver is already part of the Ubuntu distribution and can be installed by:

sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-gui

Alternatively, for other Linux distributions the original driver can be downloaded from SourceForge:

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-3.14.10.run

and is installed by:

sh hplip-3.14.10.run

I use this printer/scanner on an Ubuntu computer and a Windows (company supplied) laptop. The printer function works great on both. The scanning function on the Windows machine is great with sharp images. The linux scans are not nearly as sharp (even straight lines are fuzzy) and the generated files are much larger than the same document scanned with the Windows laptop.

Hi stuggling to get the scanner function working on this, tried xsane, simple scan and hplip, none can see the scanner, any ideas?

Is the HP Officejet Pro 6830 shown in the “lsusb” output?
Is it connected to an USB 2.0 port?
I realized this week that one of my scanners can not be accessed by Sane if connected to an USB 3.0 port. I had to attach an USB 2.0 Hub as an adapter.
