Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus USB-N14 is a WiFi USB stick, which is equipped with 5dBi antennas and supports connections according to IEEE 802.11n standard. The stick has the USB ID 0b05:17e8:

Bus 006 Device 005: ID 0b05:17e8 ASUSTek Computer, Inc.

and bases on the Ralink RT5372 chipsetz. The stick is recognized by the Linux kernel:

usb 6-2: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci
usb 6-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0b05, idProduct=17e8
usb 6-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 6-2: Product: 802.11 n WLAN
usb 6-2: Manufacturer: Ralink
usb 6-2: SerialNumber: 1.0

but not automatically supported (see list of devices supported by the rt2800usb driver).

However, Asus provides a Linux driver for download. This driver needs to be compiled and configured by hand. Consequently, the use of the Asus USB-N14 is currently only recommended for experienced Linux users.
