Review of Linux Compatibility

The Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 is a ATX mainboard with LGA1155 socket. Most components like sound, network ports and discrete GPU’s work automatically under Linux and are fully supported.

However, the on-board “Marvell 88SE9128″ hardware RAID controller does not detect the devices connected on the test system UNLESS it is set in the bios via the “gSATA3 Mode” to “AHCI”. The BIOS defaults to “IDE” Mode which doesn’t work. (SSD’s attempted and DVD-RW Drive).

A PCI-E ca0132 Creative Labs Sound Blaster Recon3D FATAL1TY Edition was used on this board together with an unusable Bigfoot Networks Killer 2100 PCI-E (no Linux drivers for this one). Both cards are detected without issues on this motherboard.

Tested Linux Distros with same behavior:

  • Xubuntu 14.04 32bit&64bit (kernel 3.16.2 generic)
  • Linux Mint Cinnamon LMDE 32bit (kernel Linux themard-linux 3.11-2-486 #1 Debian 3.11.8-1 (2013-11-13) i686 GNU/Linux)
  • Antergos 64bit (kernel 3.16.2 arch generic)
