Review of Linux Compatibility
The Traveler TV-6500 is a slide scanner, which is connected via USB. The device has the USB ID 0ac8:3370
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0ac8:3370 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.
and is automatically recognized und initialized by the Linux kernel:
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo USB Video Class driver (1.1.1) usb 2-1: new high speed USB device number 10 using ehci_hcd usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0ac8, idProduct=3370 usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 2-1: Product: 338 Camera usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Vimicro Corp. usb 2-1: SerialNumber: MI1320_SOC uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device 338 Camera (0ac8:3370) input: 338 Camera as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-1/2-1:1.0/input/input17
As can be seen in this output, the slide scanner is recognized by the kernel as a webcam and not as a typical scanner. Therefore, the kernel module uvcvideo is loaded, which supports the webcam inside the Traveler TV-6500. As a consequence, pictures of the slides can not be taken with a scan program (e.g., xsane) but have to be taken with a webcam program (e.g., cheese) and screenshots have to be taken with the webcam software..
Cheese can be installed under Ubuntu by:
sudo apt-get install cheese
