Review of Linux Compatibility

The Oregon Scientific WMR 200 is a USB weather station, which wirelessly connects to its sensors and can be connected to the PC via USB. The WMR 200 has the USB ID 0fde:ca01 (which is identical with the ID of the WMR 88, WMR 100, WMR 180), and is shown by the Linux system without a designation:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0fde:ca01

but recognized by the kernel in the following way:

The WMR 200 can be used under Linux with the open source software WeeWX (http://weewx.com). This Python program can read out the data of the weather station, store them and create charts and HTML web pages out of them.

The source code of weewx can be downloaded at Sourceforge.net. There are pre-configured DEB files files for Debian, Ubuntu or Linux Mint based distributions, which can be installed by

sudo dpkg -i weewx_X.Y.Z-R.deb

The data collected by the weather station can be stored in a sqlite or in a MySQL data base. In this way, other programs can access these data for further processing.
