Review of Linux Compatibility

The Acer Iconia W500 is a tablet PC which also supports Linux. It is supported by Ubuntu since version 11.10.

Graphic Chipset

The internal Radeon graphic card is supported by the fglrx kernel module:

The WiFi connection is established by a Atheros Ath9k chipset

Ethernet

A Linux compatible USB dongle is necessary to use Ethernet with the Acer Iconia Tab W500.

Sound is supported out-of-the-box. The internal Azalia chipset is automaticaly recognized and supported by the snd-hda-intel driver:

Bluetooth

The bluetooth chipset has the USB ID ocf3:e019:

This chipset is automatically recognized but not always activated (se Ubuntu bug report).

The BIOS can be activated by the function key F2. The upwards/downwards selection inside BIOS or in the Linux bootloader “Grub” is performed with the Volume control switch. The Windows key simulates has the functionality of the enter key in this environment.
