Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP Deskjet 2540 is a All-in-One printer with the USB ID 03f0:c211. Printer and scanner can be accessed under Linux with the HP Linux Imaging and Printing driver, which fully supports the Deskjet 2540 since version 3.13.8. The driver supports Ubuntu since 10.04, Debian since 6.0 or SuSE Linux since 12.02.

Under Ubuntu the hplip driver can be installed by the command

sudo apt-get install hplip

If one additionally wants to use a graphical user interface, the package hplip-gui needs to be installed:

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

More details regarding the usage of hplip under Ubuntu can be found at http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/HPLIP (in German).

Alternatively, the scanner of the All-in-One device is also supported by the commercial program VueScan.
