Review of Linux Compatibility

The TBS-6920 is a PCI-Express card with the PCI ID 6920:8888. The card has a DVB-S2 tuner and is recognized by the Linux kernel in the following way:

03:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video and Audio Decoder (rev 02)

The card is supported under Linux by the drivers provided by TBS at http://www.tbsdtv.com/english/Download.html .

After downloading and unpacking the driver three installation scripts can be found. Depending on the Linux system architecture the corresponding installation script needs to be chosen:

  • ./v4l/tbs-x86_r3.sh für 32bit x86 Kernel 3.x
  • ./v4l/tbs-x86.sh für 32bit x86 Kernel 2.6.x
  • ./v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh für 64bit Kernel

Under Ubuntu (e.g., for a 32bit kernel 3.x) by:

sudo ./v4l/tbs-x86_r3.sh

The driver gets compiled and installed by :

sudo make
sudo make install

After a reboot of the Linux system the kernel module cx23885 is available and gets loaded automatically:

cx23885 driver version 0.0.3 loaded
cx23885 0000:06:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16

The card is shipped together with an infrared remote control and infrared receiver. The receiver is recognized by the Linux kernel as input device and therefore can be used together with LIRC:

input: cx23885 IR (TurboSight TBS 6921) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0/0000:06:00.0/rc/rc0/input10
