Review of Linux Compatibility

The TBS6618 is a PCI-Express card with DVB-C tuner and CI slot. The card has the PCI ID 1131:7160 and is recognized in the way by the following way be the Linux kernel:

02:00.0 Multimedia controller [0480]: Philips Semiconductors SAA7160 [1131:7160] (rev 03)
   Subsystem: Device [6618:0001]
Kernel driver in use: SAA716x TBS
   Kernel modules: saa716x_tbs-dvb

The card is supported by the Linux kernel module saa716x_tbs-dvb, which is provided by the manufacturer TBS at http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/ for download. The driver needs to be compiled by hand.

The firmware file dvb-usb-tbsqbox-dvbc.fw is needed to initialize the card. This file is provided with the USB stick, which is shipped together with the TBS 6618. The firmware file has to be copied to /lib/firmware/

cp dvb-usb-tbsqbox-dvbc.fw /lib/firmware/

The downloaded driver needs to be unpacked

tar xjvf linux-tbs-drivers.tar.bz2
cd linux-tbs-drivers

Depending on the Linux platform (32bit or 64bit) one of the following build scripts has to be executed:

./v4l/tbs-x86_r3.sh
./v4l/tbs-x86.sh
./v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh

Afterwards, the driver can be compiled and installed:

make
make install

After a reboot of the system the card will be initialized automatically:
