Review of Linux Compatibility

The Ultrabook Sony Vaio T1312M1E/S has a good Linux support. However, the Touchscreen is not supported until now..

First, BIOS settings have to be modified in order to install Ubuntu on the Ultrabook. Therefore, the button “ASSIST” has to pressed, while the Ultrabook is shut down. This will start the “VAIOCare rescue mode”, which gives access to the BIOS and the boot medium settings.

The key F11 selects “booting from device (USB device/optical storage device)”, and allows booting from the Ubuntu CD or USB stick, respectively. It might be necessary to connect the device to the USB 3.0 port and not to one of the USB 2.0 port. Otherwise, the error message

(initramfs) unable to find a medium containing a live file system.

will be cast.

Furthermore, the “Boot Mode” should be switched from “UEFI” to “Legacy” in the BIOS (this can be skipped, if a 64bit Linux kernel of version 3.2 or later will be installed.

In the BIOS menu “Advanced” the “Intel AT Support System” should be deactivated (switched to “Disabled”) and in the menu “Security” the option “Secure Boot” should be deactivated (switched to “Disabled”).

After all these settings have been made, the installation of Ubuntu can start.

It is important to remove the program dmraid before the system is restarted

sudo apt-get remove dmraid
