Review of Linux Compatibility

The Digitus DN-7042-1 is a USB WiFi adapter with USB ID 0bda:8176

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

The stick bases on the RTL8188CUS chipset and is unfortunately not automatically support under Linux.

However, a Linux driver for the Realtek chipset is available for download the the Realtek homepage.

After downloading the driver package it can be unpacked and installed via :

unzip RTL819xCU_USB_linux_v3.3.0_2971.zip
cd RTL8188C_8192C_8192D_USB_linux_v3.3.0_2971.20111128
sudo bash install.sh

To subpress the automatic loading of the Linux kernel module rtl8192cu, which is not compatible with the DN-7042-1, one has to add this module to the blacklist.conf. The following line has to be added:

blacklist rtl8192cu
