Review of Linux Compatibility

The D-Link DWA-180 is a USB WiFi Adapter, which supports wireless connections according to IEEE standard 802.11ac. The USB stick has the USB ID 2001:3316 and bases on the Realtek RTL8812AU chipset.

Currently, no driver is for this stick is available in the standard Linux kernel. However, an identical chipset is used in the Edimax EW-7822UAC, therefore it is possible to use its driver, i.e. the Realtek kernel module 8812au together with the DWA-180.

One has to patch the Realtek driver in order to support the USB-ID of the DWA-180. Such patched version can be found at wikidevi.com.
