Review of Linux Compatibility

The Trendnet TU-S9 is a converter that provides a serial connection to the USB port. The converter bases on the Prolific pl2303 chipset and has the USB ID 067b:2303

Bus 003 Device 004: ID 067b:2303 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port

The kernel modules pl2303 and usbserial are needed to use the converter. Both modules are already included in modern Linux kernels and are loaded if the converter is plugged in:

usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 27
pl2303 1-3.1:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
usb 1-3.1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

The kernel automatically creates the device /dev/ttyUSB0, which is used to access the devices connecte to the serial port of the adapter.
